She plays a teenager having an affair with her friend’s dad in TV3’s Red Rock and Ann Skelly says the storyline is “challenging”.
The Wexford native plays 15-year-old Rachel Reid who is having a relationship with Seargent Brian McGonigle, by Sean Mahon (34).
Ann (18) says she has felt totally safe on set while shooting the popular soap.
“It’s more challenging than tough but I think it’s a great storyline and I think people can relate to that whole idea of an intense first love,” she told the Herald. “It’s nice to be able to address lots of issues and tell this story through a brilliantly complex character. She’s madly in love with her friend’s dad who is 30 years older than her, I like to say it’s a Romeo and Juliet story without the Romeo.
“Sean has been brilliant and he’s been such a guide to me throughout this whole process.

“It was a very comfortable and safe environment. We talked about the characters and the storyline in depth and he discussed it all with me and my mam before we even shot any scenes. It’s just work,” she said.
The next few weeks will see the culmination of this storyline that has gripped viewers and Ann says she “can’t wait to see how viewers will react”.
She is currently home schooling herself and combines studying for her Leaving Cert with her time on set.
“I’m focused enough to get on with the studies myself and it made it more handy with Red Rock as well,” she explained.
“Home schooling just suits me and school didn’t to be honest. I like to learn at my own pace and I didn’t like the whole pressure of school.
“Acting is definitely what I want to do for the rest of my life. I love story telling, it’s my absolute passion and I’m so lucky to know what I want to do,” she added.
Since Red Rock started, Ann finds that she’s been getting recognised a lot more.
“I’ve had a few instances of being recognised and everyone has been really nice,” she said. “A taximan recognised me recently and he said him and his wife love Red Rock and so we had a good long talk about the show.”
The young actress has also landed a role in Dublin singer-songwriter Gavin James’ new music video.
“I got a little part in his video for his new song, For You, which was cool.”
