Corrie heartthrob Ryan Thomas quits after 16 years to head to Hollywood
Ryan Thomas, who plays builder Jason Grimshaw, is quitting Coronation Street for the bright lights of Hollywood.
Thomas (31) has played Jason in the hit ITV soap for 15 years but revealed it is now "time to spread my wings and try other roles".
“It has been a great privilege to be in Coronation Street – the cast and crew are among the best in the business. To be a part of it for so long has been an amazing experience," he told the Daily Mirror.
"The decision to leave was extremely difficult. I’m just excited now to see what exit storyline the writers give Jason.”
Ryan's final scenes will air next summer.
“In the coming months he’ll be at the heart of a massive story, affecting not just his family but the Websters and the Windasses too which will take us well into 2016," said producer Stuart Blackburn.
Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards last week Ryan had hinted he would be heading Stateside.
"Going to Hollywood is a dream so I'm going to see what happens," he said.
"We can always dream. I've been on the show for 15 years now. I always pinch myself. I'm blessed."
Ryan has a daughter with former on and off screen flame Tina O'Brien who returned to the soap eight months ago.
