This year's show will broadcast on November 20 at 9pm ahead of RTE's rival Late Late Toy Show which airs November 27.

Last year, the 90-minute toy show was hosted by Karen Koster and Brian McFadden live from the RDS in Dublin.

The show, which also featured former X Factor stars Jedward, pulled in an impressive average of 472,100 viewers.  This compared to a whopping 1.5m who watched the Late Late Toy Show, making it the most watched programme of the year.

However, this year TV3's show will be pre-recorded at the Sony HD studio at TV3.

The show will feature young Irish performers in dance and music and children will review toys ahead of the Christmas spending spree.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for me," said Maria Walsh, who recently made her TV3 presenting debut on The Seven O'Clock Show.

"I’ve always dreamed of being a part of a toy show. When TV3 approached me I was over the moon and I just thought this was right up my alley and something I could bring a lot of energy to and have loads of fun in the process.

"I love everything about Christmas and the magic it brings to children; I’m really looking forward to playing with all the kids and toys!"

Brian Ormond added, "I’ve worked on a lot of great shows but I’ve always wanted to host a Toy Show. I’m a bit of a big kid myself so when TV3 approached me I was absolutely thrilled."

It's Brian's second gig with TV3 as he was earlier this year announced as the presenter of a new quiz show, Wishlist, which will air from early next year.

TV3 will also air a programme about the casting process for the TV3 Toy Show prior to the show itself.

Maria met hundreds of hopefuls at the Seán O'Casey community centre in Dublin’s East wall and their efforts will be shown in The Toy Show Auditions.  Date to be confirmed.
