Singer Brian Kennedy will make his first appearance on Republic of Telly and it's all thanks to a Twitter spat.

Host Kevin McGahern  boasted about the crooner's guest spot on an upcoming episode of the RTE Two programme.

"Brian Kennedy is in it, I don't know why that's the biggest selling point," he laughed to the Sunday Mirror.

"There's an episode where Viper starts a festival, like a s***ty version of Electric Picnic. The only act that shows up is Brian Kennedy. He gets kidnapped by Stateside, who's a celeb obsessed superfan. So it was fun to watch it get mildly tortured."

Kevin, who is close friends with 'Viper' from Hardy Bucks and also appears on the show, didn't originally meet Kennedy under such light circumstances as they originally trolled each other on Twitter.

"We had a run in with him before I remember I was living with the Viper at the time. He was talking smack about Hardy Bucks on Twitter," McGahern added.

"So Viper just recorded versions of Message In a Box over and over again and sent them all to him. We had a Twitter spat before, but he was great craic.

"He was really up for it and he was just sound. He understood the humour, which is the most important thing."

A host of famous faces regularly appear as guests on the show including models Georgia Salpa, Nadia Forde and Vogue Williams.

The popular presenter also said he would miss co-hosts Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O'Shea, who aren't returning to the show this season and will instead be focusing on their successful radio show Breakfast Republic on 2fm and are filming ROT spin-off Bridget and Eamon.
