Hughie (22) found love in the Big Brother house, having only just come out before he stepped through its doors.

He told the Irish Sun that the response from the Travelling community has been positive, but he doesn’t care what people think.

And he says that while his parents have no gay friends, they will be happy for him and his new-found love.

“I’m sure it is going to be strange for my mum and dad to meet my boyfriend because they don’t have any gay friends.”

“But at the same time, I know my parents will be happy I’m happy being with someone so special to me.”

Hughie, who grew up in a halting site in Ballymun in Dublin, says his coming out helped other young LGBT people in the travelling community.

“I don’t really care what anyone thinks. I don’t have to ask anyone’s permissions to do anything.”

“All the responses I have gotten from the Travelling community so far has been incredibly positive.”

“I’ve been told I have helped so many LGBT Travellers, that lots of Traveller boys have been able to come out to their parents because the whole family has been watching Big Brother.”

Hughie and Ryan plan to live together in the UK, Hughie told the newspaper.

“The next step is to work out how we can live together in the UK. I would hope we would have our own place in England before Christmas.”
