BBC presenter Victoria Derbyshire has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The mother-of-two announced the news on her official Twitter account this evening.

She will undergo a mastectomy in the coming weeks.

"Hi, I've been diagnosed with breast cancer & am having a mastectomy in a few wks [sic]," she wrote online.

"Family, friends, work and NHS staff are being brilliant."

Victoria also said she will continue to work "as much as possible" in the months ahead.

"Will be doing the programme as much as possible during treatment in the months ahead," she said.

The 49-year-old currently hosts a daily news and current affairs programme on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel. She presents Newsnight occasionally.

Family, friends, colleagues and fans messaged the presenter back in their thousands wishing her luck for the months ahead.
