Baz Ashmaway and mammy Nancy celebrate International Emmy win with chicken wings at Irish bar
Baz Ashmaway has spoke about his pride for mum Nancy following their International Emmy win for 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy.
The hit Sky One series nabbed the gong for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment and both Baz and Nancy were at the ceremony in New York to receive the award.
"As soon as they mentioned that 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy was the one that won she says she doesn't remember anything, it was like floating up on stage," said Baz, speaking to Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio One.
"She said a few words and spoke to a crowd of very sophisticated television people from all around the world and she nailed it. I'm so proud of her. She's great."
50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, which sees Nancy and Baz tackle death-defying challenges, has just finished a fourth successful series.
Asked what the secret to its success is, Baz (40) said, "It's a few things, Nancy for one. It's this amazing 70-year-old doing these insane things and just being a complete inspiration.
"It's the story of a mother and son and everyone has a mammy and we can all relate to it wherever we're from. There's a lot of luck goes into it as well. We could have easily lost it but we won tonight and we're delighted."
Baz revealed that while everyone else was at a fancy afterparty, he and his mammy chose a different way to celebrate.
"My mam is in O'Lunny's, downstairs in an Irish bar eating chicken wings! We're keeping it real!" he joked.
Baz will appear on the Late Late Show in the coming weeks.
