Amy Poehler's new show Difficult People has come under fire for a controversial joke about Beyonce's three year old daughter Blue Ivy.

Poehler, who has been riding high on the success of Disney Pixar's Inside Out, in which she voices the main character, is heavily involved in writing the scripts for the series, which features on Hulu.

The joke was made by Julie Kessler (played by Julie Klausner) in the series.  The character posts online, "I can't wait for Blue Ivy to be an 18-year-old so R Kelly can piss on her" and receives abuse from online trolls for doing so.

R n'B star R Kelly was accused of having sex with, and urinating on, an underage girl, in 2002 but was found not guilty in 2008.

Poehler is a co-founder of online community Smart Girls which aims to empower young women and has yet to respond to the backlash.

Fans have taken to Twitter to voice their upset over the joke, with others coming out in support of Amy.
