Al Porter to channel Cilla Black in TV3's Blind Date reboot - and he's looking for contestants

Eighties favourite Blind Date is returning to TV with Al Porter doing his best Cilla Black as the new host and matchmaker.

The new series will air on TV3 this autumn and comedian Al says he's "beyond delighted" to fill the role.

"[I] leaped at the chance to do it!" he says, "Since I was a kid on stage in the Olympia all I've ever wanted to do was cheer people up and entertain as many people as possible.

"I remember watching shows like Blind Date with Cilla as my Mam ironed and my Nana laughed and it doing just that - cheering us all up!”

“To think I've the opportunity to be welcomed into people's homes each week on TV3 for a bit of shiny, silly fun is a privilege and I hope people love it!

"Most fun for me, is like my Panto and radio work, Blind Date on TV3 will be broad fun, family entertainment! ...Now, to practice saying "what's your name, where do you come from?!"

TV3 has launched a search for contestants and are calling on single men and women across the country to apply.

TV presenter Lucy Kennedy had previously expressed her interest in hosting the show, the rights to which had been bought under the diretion of Jeff Ford who left the station in April 2015.

TV3 decided against launching it at that time.
