Despite being an audience favourite and pulling off a memorable Jive to ‘Do You Love Me from the hit movie’, it wasn’t enough to save him.

Reacting to the news, both him and partner Karen Byrne broke down in teras.

"It’s been fantastic, there hasn’t been one bad day," he said.

"I’m really grateful to my family, I’ve barely seen them - and to Karen."

Earlier in the night, he scored the lowest from the judges with 19 points.

In a unique twist, the five celebrities had to perform a Jive to ‘Ballroom Blitz’ as they worked up a sweat for a frenzied three-minute-long dance.

Judges eliminated them gradually based on their performance, with Des Cahill sent off first while Dayl Cronin was the last man standing.

This gave him a maximum of five points, added to the 28 points from judges putting him on top of the leaderboard.

New dad Aidan O’Mahony said he had an "amazing week" after welcoming in baby Lucia with wife Denise Healy last Thursday.

He said that she arrived into the world with "a fabulous head of black hair."

"To actually hold your baby, it’s the most amazing feeling. We’ve the perfect baby and both she and mum are healthy," he said.

"The adrenalin of having a baby gives you extra motivation. It’s a glorious time."

Despite only having two days to rehearse, pulled off an impressive Cha-Cha to ‘Cake by the Ocean’ and got 22 points from judges.

Golden girl Denise McCormack proved why she’s topping the leaderboard every week with a flawless Charleston to ‘A Little Party Never Killed Nobody’ by Fergie.

And her hard efforts paid off – she got her first 30 of the series, an achievement equalled only by Dayl Cronin.

The Hometown star last night danced the Paso Doble to Bomboleo by the Gypsy Kings.
