Ryan Tubridy saw his ratings increase

He's been earning his stripes filling in for top presenters and now Ryan Tubridy is ready to make a permanent move to BBC.

The Late Late Show presenter has admitted that he'd consider taking on full-time work in the UK.

Dad-of-two Tubs has covered for the likes of Graham Norton, Chris Evans and most recently Simon Mayo at the Beeb.

The 2fm anchor returned from a two-week stint across the Irish Sea earlier this month and said he'd consider a permanent move to the British broadcaster.

"If you asked me that question a couple of years ago I would have said that was highly unlikely," he said about a BBC future.

"Now I'm more inclined to rule the option in than out. It very much might happen."

The 41-year-old, who last Christmas bought a luxury pad with his girlfriend Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain (inset) in Monkstown, Co Dublin, stressed that instead of packing his bags and setting up home in London, he would happily trek back and forth.

"If I did I wouldn't move over but I would commute," he said.

"Terry Wogan did it for a while and didn't come home."

RATINGS

While The Late Late Show has maintained high viewership and is still one of the most watched programmes in Ireland, Ryan's 2fm show has been suffering in the ratings stakes.

But he's not ready to give it up just yet.

"I love what I do and I go into 2fm every morning and really enjoy it," he said, speaking to the RTE Guide.

"I enjoy the giddiness of the show, the fun of it - I just wish there were more people listening to it.

"The bosses have to look at it and ask, 'Is he the right man in the right place at the right time?'."

He said that he is just "a chess piece".

"The Late Late Show is pulling in a 45pc share on a weekly basis, which is unheard of in the digital age so I can't be doing everything wrong. So you have to ask: what is the problem here? I don't think it's all down to me."
