British Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has said she “can’t stand” sex scenes, calling most TV nudity “gratuitous”.
The TV star has played Daenerys Targaryen since the show’s first series, a role which has seen her appear nude on screen.
But two years ago the 28-year-old is believed to have told Game of Thrones bosses that she was no longer willing to do topless scenes.
Fellow cast member Oona Chaplin told the Telegraph: “One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn’t at all because she said, 'I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts'.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Clarke said: “Sex scenes should be more subtle”.
“I’m British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway — I can’t stand it.”
She added: “Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they’re usually just to attract an audience.
“On screen, the subtler the better.”
Her view seems to clash with producers of the HBO fantasy series, which is known for its explicit scenes.
