Downton fans rejoyce!
Executive producer Gareth Neame has suggested that the 'majority' of the characters could return in future.
The final series of the smash hit period drama begins on TV3 on Tuesday night.
Fans are sure to greet the final episodes with a combination of anticipation and nostalgia.
Neane said that the two-hour Christmas special, which is the last episode of the drama, will not include a disaster, though neither will it feature a fairytale ending.
He told the Daily Telegraph that writers have ensured the door be left open for characters to return.
"There's a sense of finality.
"Hopefully there will be a mixture of sweetness and sorrow.
"They aren't all going to be wiped out by a meteorite.
"At the end we leave them to their own lives.
"We want to answer the questions that people are asking," he said.
Series six of Downton is set in 1925, a time when the labour movement was in full swing in Britain.
Series five has been nominated for three Emmys, and the prestigious awards ceremony takes place in LA tomorrow night.
The show is up for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama for Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates) and Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama for Jim Carter (Mr. Carson)
