'Don't care what she did... if I find her on Tinder, I'll swipe right' - best reactions to Michaella McCollum interview
Michaella McCollum's interview on RTE last night generated huge reaction on social media.
The vast majority of tweeters condemned RTE for giving the convicted drug smuggler, who has emerged from a Peruvian prison having served two of her six year sentence, airtime.
Tone of this interview: where's the bun gone ya wee scamp? Tone it needs to be: WTF WERE YOU THINKING? #MichaelaMcCollum— Paddy McKenna (@PaddyMcKenna) April 3, 2016
The 'soft' tone of the interview also came under fire as many felt the line of questioning focused more on her physical transformation and new blonde locks than it did on the circumstances of her crime.
While a few lone voices supported the 23-year-old Tyrone woman many viewers opted to plough the situation for humour and make their point with a joke or two...
Questions I would have asked: How much were you paid? Were you taking drugs too? Will you be trademarking your Hun bun? #MichaelaMcCollum— Alexandra Ryan (@SweetLikeAli) April 3, 2016
I was expecting #MichaelaMcCollum to say her time in prison was hell &couldn't wait to get out-instead she spent most of her time in a salon— Brian Ormond (@brianormond79) April 3, 2016
I get that she's young&made a mistake but for gods sake ask the questions we all want to hear!Terrible interview #MichaelaMcCollum— Brian Ormond (@brianormond79) April 3, 2016
"Now love, I know you smuggled a couple of million quid's worth of cocaine, but everyone is talking about your bun. Mammy" #MichaelaMcCollum— Eoghan McDermott (@eoghanmcdermo) April 3, 2016
Ok so I know she's hardly a drug lord but this interview is very soft.. #MichaelaMcCollum— Mairead Ronan (@cocomairead) April 3, 2016
For a woman just out of jail she has completely transformed herself and looking fantastic #MichaelaMcCollum— Darren Kennedy (@Darrenken) April 3, 2016
RTE are an absolute joke and owe the licence fee holders a big explanation #MichaelaMcCollum— Michael Doyle (@MDoyler) April 3, 2016
This is bizarre. The Ibiza imagery, her manicured appearance, the softball questions, voiceover blaming the dealers. #MichaelaMcCollum— Shane O Leary (@shaneoleary1) April 3, 2016
It seems more girls should traffic drugs & spend time in jail in Peru. I can see it now, operation jailformation #MichaelaMcCollum— Niall Lanigan (@nlano06) April 3, 2016
I have empathy for #MichaelaMcCollum and how she was targeted by the dealers in Ibiza, I once went to lourdes and a lady gave me a crucifix— Con Creedon (@conisme) April 3, 2016
Was v impressed with how much Michaela has grown, how resilient she is, how genuinely sorry she is &strength of character #MichaelaMcCollum— Enda McNulty (@Enda_McNulty) April 4, 2016
For every #MichaelaMcCollum, there's thousands smuggling every day. Why hate on a young woman? Not the root of the problem.— Daithi (@tvcritics) April 4, 2016
