Taking full advantage of the facilities at the recently extended Model arts centre in Sligo (a centre that clearly lives up to its name) is this exciting new cinema programme, the fruit of a collaboration between the Dublin-based Irish Film Institute and the centre.
IFI at the Model kicks off on Thursday at 8pm with a screening of the critically acclaimed Gainsbourg, about the French pop star Serge Gainsbourg, directed by French graphic artist Joann Sfar and produced by the team responsible for the magical world of Pan's Labyrinth. (Admission is free but tickets need to be reserved.)
Screenings are each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm, with special programmes for young folk and Ruby Tuesday events for over 55s. The extension to the Model by architects Sheridan Woods has increased both the impact of the building and the range of facilities on offer, reinforcing its position as one of the country's leading, cutting-edge arts centres. And that's not to mention the Niland collection, featuring John and Jack B Yeats, Paul Henry and Louis Le Broquy.
