The Last Word presenter was offered a dare by his programme team: to pen an original song and sing it in front of a live audience.
On Monday evening, Matt’s producer revealed the dare live on the show: “You love writing, you love music, and you love live gigs...it’s marrying the things that you are good at, I don’t think I’m being unfair here, Matt.”
But the broadcaster doesn't feel too confident about pulling it off successfully.
Commenting on his dare, Matt said: "Singing is going to be a challenge enough in itself, made worse by performing in front of an audience, but I think I would be far happier if I was doing a well known, popular song. "
"I’m going to get judged on the double and I can only imagine the analysis that’s going to be done of any lyrics I pen. I know the cause is good but the challenge is a bit different to what I expected and more too.”
But it's all for a good cause.
Following on from its hugely successful Shave or Dye campaign which raised over €7million for the Irish Cancer Society, Today FM presenters and listeners have committed to taking on all sorts of dares to raise much needed funds for cancer services with their September fundraiser, Dare to Care.
Within the next week, Today FM presenters such as Anton Savage, Dermot & Dave, Fergal D’Arcy and Louise Duffy will be forced to reveal what they’re prepared to do for ‘Dare to Care’.
On Friday last, Ian Dempsey gave into listener demands and agreed to get his first ever tattoo for the campaign – but only if €25,000 is raised for The Irish Cancer Society.
