The father-of-two made his comments after interviewing a doctor on his radio programme yesterday.

Ray (49) told of how he and his wife, former Today FM producer Jenny Kelly, had previously discussed the procedure.

The couple are parents to daughter Kate (7) and two-year-old son Tom.

Dr John O’Keeffe, from the Morehampton Clinic in Dublin, was interviewed by Ray yesterday about undergoing the procedure with local anaesthetic.

“I said in a moment of stupidity really that I might get it done live on air,” Ray told Dr O’Keeffe.

“I’ve had two children and at this stage – we have discussed this, myself and my wife – we are not going to have any more children.

“Would that be possibility to do [the procedure live on air]?”

Dr O’Keeffe said he would be happy to carry out the procedure – but suggested Ray might think it over some more.

“I don’t mind. I’m not sure whether you want to get it done live. You can think about that one,” Dr O’Keeffe said.

“Right. Okay, we’ll discuss it off air,” Ray replied.

The DJ said the interview and his comments received a lot of feedback from listeners, prompting him to say later: “I think I might go for it now after all that. It’s easy to say that now.”

When co-presenter and producer Will Hanafin asked if he was seriously considering undergoing the procedure on air, Ray said: “Are we really that desperate for listeners? Would you tune in for that? I don’t think people would. I think they would switch off.

“I’d says it has been done before. I’d say someone has had the snip done on air.”
