Ryan Tubridy: 'I was punched in the face once at a pitch and putt course'

RTE host Ryan Tubridy has paid credit to Conor McGregor, and jokingly recalled his own scuffles.
The father-of-two joked that the only time he was in a ‘cage fight’ was with his younger brother when they both sat in a shopping trolley as children fighting over a packet of Jammy Dodgers.
He added that his only violent experience was when he was punched in the face by an older student after a round of Pitch and Putt.
“I was punched in the face once,” Tubridy told 2fm host Eoghan McDermott. “I was on a Pitch and Putt course with a pal of mine and there was a really big guy ahead of us in army gear from head to toe, khaki clothes, dog chains, he was really into it. He was in 5th year and I was in 3rd year.”
“He told us that we had to call him through. So I yelled, ‘Just a second through, we’re nearly finished.’ He raised his fist and said, ‘I’m gonna get you.’”
A while later, Tubridy was out and about and sure enough he came face to face with the older student.
“He saw me, and he put his fist in my face. It was worth the gag, you’ve got to suffer for your humour,” Tubridy laughed as he promised it was the only fight he ever engaged in.
“I wonder will it make it into the papers, it’s either me or Vogue,” he added.
McDermott chimed in, “I just get people shouting at me, ‘Get a haircut you idiot!’”
