Radio buddies Dermot and Dave stick with each other for big move to national airwaves at Today FM
They’re two of radio’s best friends and they’ll be sticking with each other for their next big move on the wireless.
Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore are set to grace the national airwaves as Today FM have revealed the comic duo as their latest addition to their schedule.
The pair, who have been with Dublin’s 98FM for 12 years, are planning to make their debut in September.
The switch comes less than two years after 98fm shocked Today FM by recruiting one of their biggest names, Ray Foley.
“Hopefully @dermotwhelan & @Dave98FM's tea-making skills are up to scratch. Two sugars,” TodayFM tweeted earlier today as they announced the news.
The duo received an ‘overwhelming’ response to the news with Dermot later tweeting; “Thanks for all the awesome tweets! So excited to be heading for @todayfmofficial. The craic! Will miss @98FM so much though.”
Their new slot on the national airwaves has yet to be decided, a spokesperson for Today FM told the Irish Independent.
The two presented the award-winning Breakfast show on the Dublin station for eight years before moving to host their ‘Dermot & Dave Show’ in the drive-time slot four years ago.
Comedian Whelan has also hosted RTE’s ‘Republic of Telly’ and was a regular on ‘The Panel’. On the comedy circuit, Dermot has performed at both Kilkenny’s Cat Laughs and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Dermot’s partner-in-crime, Dave, is a comedy writer, songwriter and music producer who has worked with acts Des Bishop and Podge & Rodge among others.
“Other broadcasters have come knocking over the years to try and attract us away but to be honest, the creative track record and reputation of Today FM over so many years made it a simple enough decision to join their stellar line-up,” Dave said as the news was revealed.
