Mairead Farrell leaving Ray D'Arcy for Ian Dempsey on Today FM
Mairead Farrell is leaving the Ray D'Arcy Show for Ian Dempsey's Breakfast Show on Today FM.
Having started in radio as an intern on the Ray D'Arcy Show ten years ago, Mairead (34) was promoted to broadcasting assistant and then co-producer and presenter on the show.
It is understood she will be a producer on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show which broadcasts from 7am - 9am Monday to Friday.
The 7am broadcast time will mean an earlier start for the mum-of-one who has just got engaged to her businessman boyfriend Louis Ronan.
However, speaking on air this morning, she said the move would afford her more time to spend with her six-year-old son Dara.
"I'm moving on from the Ray D'Arcy...all of 16 ft away to the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show as a producer," she said.
"It's very tough leaving here, but it's something that's been on my mind for awhile.
"Dara is growing up in a flash in front of my eyes! With starting work earlier, I'll be home in the afternoons. I'll be able to pick him up from school every day
"This year, Dara started lessons and after school activities and I couldn't take him to one."
"I'm really excited about it because they have a brilliant time over there, but I'm sad I’m leaving!"
Mairead's banter with Ray has been credited with boosting the Ray D'Arcy Show's popularity over the years.
Her departure is the second this summer for the show, which also saw Ray's wife Jenny Kelly (40) leave to spend more time with their children, daughter Kate (7) and two-year-old Tom.
Mairead has also appeared on TV on RTE's The Panel and Celebrity Bainisteoir.
