Dublin funnyman Al Porter has had a massive impact since making his debut on Today FM, according to presenting duo Dermot and Dave.

The pair said they were delighted to see him become part of the team after he took over their lunchtime slot when they moved to mornings at the station.

Tallaght man Al was announced as the newest addition to the roster in January.

"We don't have to give Al Porter much advice; he could buy and sell everybody in here," Dermot told the Herald.

"He had done enough at 2fm I think to kind of cut his teeth in there, but nothing frightens him.

"He's a great man to have around the office. We were delighted when he arrived because he's the only person who's louder than us."

Al (23) has seen increased success since his first television appearance in 2010, and became the youngest comedian ever to headline Vicar Street in 2015.

The lunchtime spot became available when it was announced that Dermot and Dave were to host a new mid-morning show after Anton Savage quit the station.

The presenters have admitted they have not spoken to Anton since.

"We saw him on the road the other day but we haven't sat down and had a tete-a-tete. There's no need to do that," they said.

"Radio shows change all the time.

"We've been doing this for 15 years; we have seen lots of people come and go and it's standard in radio."

The pair are thrilled to now be settled into the larger morning slot.
