Morning Ireland listeners may have been surprised to hear Bryan Dobson's familiar tones on Morning Ireland this morning.
The presenter, who has helmed the RTE News: Six One since 1996, is joining the team for a brief few days this month.
"It's not a regular thing, he does it every now and again during the summer when Six One goes to half an hour," said an RTE spokesperson. "Traditionally he does it every August."
Morning Ireland, which broadcasts on RTE Radio 1 every weekday morning from 7am-9am, is the most popular radio show in the country.
The Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) survey results, published in May, revealed that the show has 438,000 weekday listeners despite a decline of 6,000 over the summer.
From September 1st Brian Dobson (53) will be taking up his post as Adjunct Professor of Public Service Broadcast Journalism at The University of Limerick (UL).
The appointment will run for a three-year period and will see him lecture in public service broadcast policy and broadcast journalism although he will continue to work for RTE.
