2fm presenter Colm Hayes to leave RTE
2fm weekend breakfast presenter Colm Hayes is to leave RTE.
Colm joined RTE ten years ago, initially to co-present 2fm’s flagship Colm and Jim Jim’s Breakfast Show.
Says Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ 2fm: “Colm Hayes is one of the most outstanding broadcasters in the country. Over the last ten years he has produced some of the best radio on 2fm. Along with my colleagues I wish him continued success in his future career.”
The Santry native started out in pirate radio, and went on to present a weekend show on 2fm. He presented the lunchtime show after Gerry Ryan’s slot, and created a number of characters for his show.
Hayes joined commercial radio and worked on Capital 104.4FM, Rock104 and then FM104. He became programme director of FM104 in 1995 and creator and presenter on The Strawberry Alarm Clock.
In 2006 Colm returned to RTÉ with The Colm and Jim Jim Breakfast Show in March 2006. He has presented The Colm Hayes Show on 2fm since 2010.
Following Jim Nugent’s departure, Colm presented various talk and phone in shows for 2fm, as well as evening drivetime show Drive By, where he forged a unique partnership with comedian Al Porter.
The presenter will now concentrate on a number of projects he has been working on with his media production company.
Says Hayes: “I’ve loved my time at 2fm, and now is the time to move on. Just as 2fm is evolving and changing, so am I. I wish all the team in 2fm the best of luck and I’d like to say thank you to all the people I have worked with in RTÉ over the last ten years.”
