Dubliner Aidan Turner has become a sex symbol, partly as a result of his shirtless meadow mowing in the hit BBC series Poldark. But there was consternation as he incurred the wrath of the scything community.
Turner set hearts aflutter when he stripped off to mow a hay field with a scythe, an ancient cutting tool not much used now in the actor's native city. While the simmering scene helped send audience ratings through the roof, it prompted a scathing critique. Scything expert Chris Riley said he should have kept his shirt on, and said there were cutting criticisms from scything connoisseurs of his technique.
