Strictly Come Dancing fans were thrilled to see last year’s champs Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton return to the stage to perform their winning jive again.

Their dance in simple black and white costumes to Bruno Mars’ Runaway made headlines when they brought it to BBC 1’s glittering stage for the first time last year, and it helped secure them the spot of show winners.

Repeating it a year later to launch this year’s series on Saturday night, it also marked Clifton’s last appearance on the show, following her recent decision to step down and focus on musical theatre.

A delighted Emma Greenwood commented on Twitter: “Will never get bored of watching @joanneclifton and @OreOduba jive – choreography is just fab! And those flicks!”

Another added: “Awwwwww @OreOduba & @joanneclifton. I adore this Jive. So so so so good.”

The big opening extravaganza also included singing performances from Rita Ora and Shania Twain, and a moving tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth in the form of a waltz by the show’s professional dancers to Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon.
