Clearly not afraid of being the butt of the joke, one Irish soccer fanatic has gone above and beyond to celebrate Ireland’s qualification for the 2016 European Championships by getting Jon Walter’s name tattooed on his rear end.

As the nation was raising the Stoke City striker up as this week’s sporting hero after scoring the final goal in the Ireland vs Bosnia game on Monday night, thereby securing Ireland’s place in Euro 2016, Tipperary man Nathan O’Donnell (20) was busy having Jon’s name etched on his backside.

Speaking to Irish Sun, the 20-year-old explained the unusual tattoo came about following a bet with pets.

“Before the play-off started I said that if Jon scored the goal for us to qualify I was getting inked,” he said.

True to his word, Mr O’ Donnell from Clonmel went ahead with the tattoo, saying that so far the reaction has been “mostly positive”.

“I don’t think my mum minded too much just because it was on my backside and not visible while I’m walking around,” he told the Irish Sun.

“I certainly don’t regret it. I wasn’t drunk or anything when I got it.

“Maybe one day I’ll regret it — I can’t say for sure — but hopefully it will just remind me of some of the best nights of my life, like Monday.”
