The busiest few weeks of the year is upon us with a host of championship events and a bundle of congress weekends.
We begin with the inter provincial championships this coming weekend in Athlone and follow with Donegal Congress. Entries to Ana Carr at 087-2541504. On then to the East of Ireland congress in Dundalk. The venue is the Crown Plaza Hotel and there is a full programme starting on November 13 with mixed pairs (early starts for the main events). Entries to Eileen McEntegert at (042) 9321643 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Kilkenny has long been one of the most popular week-ends of the season and has moved to an excellent home in the Ormonde Hotel, right in the middle of town. More details nearer the date. I won't go into the reasons for the date confusion over the Lady Milne trials dates. Suffice to say year-old notices should never be left on a website.
Me mother used say: "Never send a child on a man's errand". Hand from a recent club competition.
Bidding (NS vul)
W N E S 3S X 4S 5C P 6C All pass
Believe it or not, one NS pair were allowed to play in 4H. My view of this hand is simple. E should go straight to 6S, going 3 down against a stone cold vul Club slam. I also saw 6H bid and made when CA and a ruff beats it. And even if S is allowed to bid 6C then EW should sacrifice not vul.
