The new season is upon us and we start with the new North Kerry Congress at the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee. Usual programme, ending with an extended team session on August 30. Entries to Nick Fitzgibbon, (066) 7185-471 or Trish Stack, (087) 625-4284.
(Call the hotel on (066) 718-0444 and ask for Siobhan. or Catherine to get a special Bridge package).
The following Sunday we have the Bray Swiss teams at the Royal Hotel. Nice lot of Euro to be won and just €80 to enter your four players. Entries to Mamie McCormac, (087) 931-8377, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The first major competition - Duais an Uachtarain - will be played at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney, on September 26-27. I am sure there will be a record entry since this is one of the best venues anywhere and convenient for everybody. Not often do you find game on for both sides, especially at the five-level.
Of course, Spades always win - but who is pushing whom where in Bray? Who can be certain whether or not to bid on with the minor?

Flat result, but 6D goes only one down. But do you know that, and do you want to push NS into a Spade slam? Not an easy decision.
And what about the S opening at the one-level? Yes, I know it is a 21-count, but 1S is correct unless you are playing Precision or Polish.
