Discount Oxegen tickets point to slow gig season

Tuesday July 08 2008
MUSIC fans can grab huge savings ahead of this weekend's Oxegen festival at Punchestown, with three-day passes struggling to attract internet bids of €90.
This represents just 40pc of the face value. The handful of cheap Oxegen tickets left comes during a relatively slow summer for concerts, with several big events not selling out.
Oxegen organisers MCD last week released more tickets in a bid to sting ticket touts. But over the past week, tickets have been available on internet auction site eBay at a "buy it now" price of €160, more than €60 less than the official asking price of €224.
And yesterday afternoon, the highest bid for a three-day ticket, with two minutes to go, was €86.
Justin Green from MCD said that the fact that tickets are available at knockdown prices just days in advance of the concert was "great news".
"It proves the campaign to combat ticket touting is working," he said.
