Baby Sam enchants pop's Sinead
Sunday October 05 2008
Sinead O'Carroll, former singer with Irish girl band, B*Witched, had her first baby last Saturday night. She and her husband, Michael Rahman, are over the moon. And why wouldn't they be? Gorgeous Samarah arrived at 10.48pm in Mount Carmel Hospital. They say this is the place the Too Posh To Push crowd go to have their children delivered, but I have it on excellent authority that no matter how posh you are, you have to push.
Which is what you'll have to do too, if you want to see Brian Friel's new version of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler at the Gate. It opened last Tuesday to an ecstatic reception and there is a run on tickets (better than a run on the banks, at any rate). As for myself, I was positively bewitched. Friel attended the world premiere, along with his wife, Anne and daughter, the director, Judy Friel, who made the trip from Donegal. As usual, artistic director Michael Colgan played host to Gate regulars such as Alison O'Reilly, RTE's Chairperson Mary Finan with Ib Jorgensen, Gay and Kathleen Byrne, Pat Kenny and his wife, Kathy.
