New Rose triggers retail rush for her winning style

An ARMY of style fans has rushed out to buy the exact jewellery that Maria Walsh wore on TV last Tuesday night when she was crowned the 2014 Rose of Tralee.

"It is the best reaction we have ever had to a Rose's jewellery and sales, in particular online sales, for the Newbridge eShe collar and bangle worn by Maria have gone through the roof since Tuesday night," confirmed Marie Brennan from the Irish jewellery brand.

Ironically, it was a last minute change in outfit that led Maria to wear the €85 multi-stone collar and the matching €30 bangle.

"All the Roses send us pictures of their outfit and we match up our jewellery with them. Maria had chosen to wear a different outfit but then she changed to the cream dress so we changed things around and matched her look with our collar," said Marie.

With her cute, gamine, Audrey Hepburn-style hair cut and proven good taste in clothes, it didn't come as a surprise when it emerged that Maria works in fashion for the American brand Anthropologie, part of the Urban Outfitters chain.

With her keen eye, Maria was a natural to work with location scout Nigel Swann who helped guide Annie Leibovitz's 'Wild Irish Rose' shoot for American Vogue magazine in Co Kerry and Cork last summer.

Viewers responded by going out to buy the Newbridge Silverware collars and necklace worn by the Carlow Rose Miriam Smyth and the Southern California Rose Kathryn Anne Bergman. The clear stone earrings worn by Texas Rose Cyndi Crowell also sparked retail love.
