My perfect weekend: John Kelly

The plan for Saturday night?
I suppose I should preface everything by saying that, for the past eight years, I've been a full-time father. I don't get out much. I've just been to see Randy Newman. That is my ration for being out and about. Must See gig of the fortnight?
I'm going to see the new Bill Hicks movie at the weekend, although that'll be work for The View. I used to go to all the gigs, nowadays I have to be kind of ruthless. I'll go to see Bruce Springsteen. But I won't go see some young band.
Pub/ restaurant/club you couldn't live without?
Peter's Pub, it seems to be the right environment for myself. I also like the Stag's Head, you used to be able to walk in on a Friday night and know everyone.
Best weekend ever?
I went to the [New Orleans] Jazzfest a few years ago. Nobody knew I was there. Then somebody at the gig spotted me. I was kind of caught. I went to New Orleans just for the weekend. I was kind of there and back before anybody knew I had gone.
Worst weekend ever?
I suppose it would have been back in the bad old days when you couldn't get a taxi and you had to walk all the way back to Dun Laoghaire or wherever.
