The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl -- 'Fairytale of New York'

He's a lush; she's a heroin addict. At long last reality creeps into a Christmas song -- yet somehow the spell cast is all the more magical for it.

And thanks to this, poor Kirsty will live forever.

Low -- 'Take The Long Way 'Round'

Minnesota Mormons Low released possibly the finest indie Yuletide album ever -- simply titled Christmas.

This self-penned song is an eerie, Gothic-sounding number that is more Joy Division than 'Joy To The World'; its narrative concerning the horrid Herod and his plan to make sure Baby Jesus never sees his FIRST birthday, never mind his 2,009th.

Wham -- 'Last Christmas'

A guilty pleasure, this one. Poor George Michael is left blubbing by the Christmas tree after a fly-by-night lover leaves him in the lurch on the holidays.

A great tune that has stood the test of Father Time.
