Young splits from wife of 36 years
Neil Young has filed for divorce from Pegi Young, his wife of 36 years, who inspired several of the singer's greatest love songs.
A petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by the 68-year-old in their home town of San Mateo, California, in late July, it has emerged. A hearing is scheduled for December 12.
The songwriter is notorious for switching between musical collaborators, but the divorce ends one of his most enduring stage partnerships.
Young, inset, first met Pegi (61) when she was working as a waitress at a diner. His 1992 song Unknown Legend tells their story. He sang: "I used to order just to watch/her float across the floor/She grew up in a small town/Never put her roots down."
She joined his band as a back-up singer in the 1990s, sharing the stage with him at the 1994 Oscars and numerous tours. (© Independent News Service)
