Young guns The Capitals all fired up for shot at Oxegen

Published 18/04/2010 | 05:00

The Capitals, a three-piece band from Dublin, will become the youngest band ever to play the Oxegen festival later this year.

Glen Guerin, Mark Ryan and Evan Dempsey come from Sutton and Howth on the north side of Dublin -- but they don't want to be compared with any other band from the same region. The charismatic members got together in the summer of 2008 and have been moving up through the ranks, winning the Battle of the Bands and exploring and experimenting with new sounds and ideas.

They listen to great old music from previous generations like Jimi Hendrix, Thin Lizzy, Joy Division, The Cure, The Clash and The Velvet Underground.

This mix of the old sounds along with new artists such as The Strokes, White Denim, Kings of Leon, Justice, White Lies and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, is what makes The Capitals unique as they prepare for what could be their breakthrough appearance at Oxegen in June.
