Willy Mason says it was a tough decision to stop touring for a while.
The singer-songwriter is back playing gigs and recording music after a long period away from the spotlight.
He said of his long break from touring: "In the end it was my decision, and certainly a lot of people I worked with were disappointed that I disappeared.
"It was a difficult decision to make, and I had to give up a lot of things to do it. But in the end it felt like it was for the benefit of me and my writing."
The singer, who is back with a new album Carry On, said: "I try not to worry about how things affect other people when it comes to my songwriting, but then that means I have to juggle responsibility. Usually the songwriting comes first."
