Paul Weller is receiving the Godlike Genius Award from NME magazine - but he says he should have got the gong years ago.
The 51-year-old musician will be presented with the title at the NME Awards at Brixton Academy to celebrate three decades in the music industry both as a solo artist and with The Jam and The Style Council.
Paul told the Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio: "It's long overdue mate to be fair - I am excited, it's very flattering."
Asked if he had planned an outfit to accept his award in, the Modfather joked: "I'm just going to wear a little black number with low heels."
Weller's latest single is being released as a double A side but he revealed: "I don't choose these things any more. The powers that be see fit to put both sides out but it's fine with me, I like both songs. I'd put the entire album out as a single if I could."
But he added: "I'm really happy with the new album. It's different and we're trying to push musical boundaries with it. I think that's what an artist should do, it's part of our job."
