The xx: We write songs at night

The xx found their inspiration for their Mercury Prize-winning eponymous debut album at night.
The south London band scooped the music gong at the awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London on Tuesday night.
Vocalist and bassist Oliver Sim told the Daily Star: "None of us are morning people. We do all our songwriting at night. Once we started the recording we went into vampire mode. We like working when most people are ready to go to sleep."
The 20-year-old added: "Things flow easier, emotions are high, everybody in my house was asleep so there was no disruption. There's a certain type of stillness at night that helps the hushed tone in our music."
Oliver joked that the band's producer Jamie Smith, 20, looked "quite mad" after working through the night on the album.
He said: "Jamie works... right through til 9am sometimes, because that's when he could get the studio for free. We didn't see him for a long while and when I did see him he looked quite mad, but I think it worked well for him."
