The Pipettes: We're the new Abba

The Pipettes say they've abandoned "the 60s girl group thing" and are "the new Abba" instead.
Gwenno Saunders, who is now the only remaining member of the pop trio, invited her sister Ani to join the band and, along with the original backing band The Cassette, they've recorded a 70s disco album with Human League producer Martin Rushent.
She said: "Martin said, 'Oh, you're the new Abba' - we said 'okay, that sounds brilliant'."
She continued: "That's when we cemented the record, wanting to make a 70s disco album. That was that - it just sort of happened."
The band have also re-recorded some of Human League's Dare for the London JD Set, and Gwenno says they'll be putting The Pipettes stamp on it.
She said: "We get to sing Don't You Want Me which is brilliant. Me and my sister are going to do it, it's going to be quite funny. We've got a Pipettes way of doing things and hopefully we'll throw a few dances in there."
:: The Pipettes will be performing at The JD Set with Shy Child, Infadels, Shortwave Set and Kids On Bridges on May 5 at Dingwalls in Camden, London. For more info go to www.thejdset.co.uk
