The chamber pop outfit fronted by Neil Hannon, from Enniskillen, will be given the Oh Yeah Legend Award in recognition of their exceptional contribution. It will be presented during a special performance at the Mandela Hall in Belfast on November 14.

Divine Comedy achieved a Top 10 UK hit in 1998 with National Express.

Hannon said: "I am amazed and humbled to be receiving this honour. There is nothing more gratifying than recognition from your homeland, and I'm very much looking forward to playing some songs and seeing some familiar faces at the Mandela Hall on Nov 14."

Previous recipients of the award, which recognises artists from Northern Ireland, include Therapy?; Stiff Little Fingers and The Undertones.

Stuart Bailie, chief executive of the Oh Yeah Music Centre, said: "The Divine Comedy have delivered so many stunning songs and Neil Hannon writes with wit, emotion and intelligence.

"He continues to bring distinction to Northern Ireland and we're so pleased that he has agreed to accept his Legend Award and to perform at the occasion."

The Oh Yeah Legend presentation will be preceded by the NI Music Prize, which will celebrate the best of Northern Irish albums.

This will be decided by an academy of media and industry professionals following live performances by several shortlisted acts at the Mandela Hall.
