The Green Army's famous chant 'You'll never beat the Irish' is the chorus of the official Euro 2012 anthem.

A supergroup featuring Damien Dempsey, Bressie, Danny O'Reilly from the Coronas and folk heroes the Dubliners got together to record the song.

And next Tuesday, they hope the Irish squad will join them in the studio to add their vocals.

The song, which is sung to the tune of 'the Rocky Road to Dublin', has a working title of 'the Rocky Road to Poland'.

It was put together with various lyrics suggested by listeners of 'the Ray D'Arcy Show' on Today FM, which were worked into a song by singer Damien Dempsey.

Lyrics include: "Make your mother proud, bate your bodhran loud and learn your Polish grammar. Credit union loan, sold the Opel Corsa, hired a campervan and picked it up in Warsaw."

The group yesterday said they were unaware that a rival version of the song, with the same title, was currently being recorded by Shane MacGowan and Mullingar band The Aftermath. "Well, nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition," Damien Dempsey said.

The single will be released in April and proceeds will be split between the John Giles Foundation and Today FM's Shave or Dye campaign for the Irish Cancer Society.
