Success a surprise for Rizzle Kicks

Rizzle Kicks said they work hard to impress their audiences

Rizzle Kicks have admitted they never dreamed they would become one of the biggest pop acts in Britain.

The pop-rap duo - Harley Alexander-Sule and Jordan Stephens - were unknown less than two years ago but have now sold more than one million singles in the UK, along with 300,000 albums.

Asked if they thought such success could happen for them, Harley said: "Not a chance! It's mad to think how I was fully prepared to go to drama school, and Jordan was solo rapping.

"We started doing stuff together but when college finished I was always just going to study acting. That was my passion.

"Jordan persuaded me not to go, to give it a year, and then if nothing happened with the music I'd go back to drama school. I thought, 'Why not?' and got a job, but within two months we'd been signed and six months later we'd had a hit single."

Harley said the pair still work hard to "impress people" with their energetic shows.

He said: "They might be fans already, but we still want to win them over, make them think that they're definitely Rizzle Kicks fans, so we completely go for it, try as hard as we can. We're in our own little world."

He said of preparing to go on stage: "I do a bit of vocal warm-up, but we just drink tea and chill. We use so much energy on stage that if we psyched ourselves up, we'd be dead at the end of it. Our stamina is terrible! We just chill and then get our game faces on about a minute before the show."
