SuBo: I'm like Whistler's mother
Susan Boyle has apparently played down her glamorous makeover, claiming she used to look like Whistler's Mother.
The 49-year-old Britain's Got Talent star reportedly compared herself to the dowdy, stern bonneted figure in the Victorian oil painting by American artist James McNeill Whistler, titled Arrangement In Grey And Black: The Artist's Mother, painted in 1871.
Susan is quoted in The Sun, speaking about life before she became famous, saying: "Oh for goodness sake! I looked like Whistler's Mother!"
She went on: "I do scrub up well. Once I've got the false teeth in and the hair, you know, I'm fine."
The singer, who celebrated her birthday while on tour in Japan last week, now employs a stylist, hairdresser and make-up artist, it is claimed.
And while Susan's album I Dreamed a Dream has sold eight million copies worldwide, scooping her millions in royalties, she is has remained down to earth, revealing she still takes the bus when she is at home in Blackburn, West Lothian.
Susan said: "Well if you don't want to walk, you can catch the bus."
