US trio Haim have been tipped for the top this year after triumphing in a poll of music business insiders.
The band - sisters Danielle, Alana and Este Haim - have been named winners of the BBC Sound of 2013 list of the most promising new musical talent for the coming year.
The band, whose music is described as "R&B, pop and classic rock-inspired", have toured with Mumford & Sons in the US and Florence and the Machine in the UK.
They said: "We are so unbelievably honoured to win the BBC Sound of 2013 list. We have found our second home in the UK. We can't wait to release new music and play as many shows as possible this year. Thank you to everyone who voted for us. We are so excited."
More than 200 DJs, critics and bloggers voted in this year's poll with the top five acts revealed one at a time every day this week.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens said: "Haim have an unapologetic passion for music that shines in their songs. They're brilliant musicians who have a real talent for tunes that merge their tales of growing up in the 21st century with classic songwriting ability.
"They have an undeniable, contagious enthusiasm that will win them many more fans in 2013."
The band were joined in the top five by R&B/electronica duo AlunaGeorge, New York rapper Angel Haze, soul singer Laura Mvula and three-piece CHVRCHES.
Previous winners include Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Keane and Adele.
