X Factor winner Shayne Ward has split from his fiancée Faye McKeever.
The couple got engaged after celebrating their ninth anniversary in September 2012.
So there was shock from fans when the 29-year-old tweeted: "Sad to announce that myself and Faye have ended our relationship, please respect our privacy. Thank you x."
Ex-girlfriend McKeever (28), a star of Sky TV sitcom Trollied, thanked her online fans for all their support after the news broke, tweeting: "Thanks for all your lovely tweets. Means a lot."
Among those surprised was Tony Allen of Foster and Allen, with whom Ward collaborated last month recording and promoting a cover of Galway Girl.
"I'm sad to hear this news. I'm surprised too because when Shayne came over to record the song and do the Late Late Show with us, he brought Faye with him and they were inseparable," Tony Allen told the Herald.
The Manchester Irish singer, had also accompanied the duo on a number of TV appearances in the UK.
However, Shayne had appeared increasingly miserable in the tweets he sent over Christmas.
On Christmas Day he tweeted: "I hope you all had a great day with your loved ones. Got a headache so early night for me x."
Two days later he added: "It was a very quiet Christmas for me this year. I hope you all had a blast xxx."
It was a world away from September 2012, when Shayne announced that he had got engaged to Faye following a romantic night in London.
"I have just asked Faye McKeever to marry me and she said YES!"
He first shot to fame when he won the X Factor in 2005 with Louis Walsh as his mentor, the first time the Mayoman had a winner on the ITV show.
Shayne has since performed in musical Rock of Ages and finished fifth in last year's Dancing On Ice.
