He is known for his profanity-ridden rants, but now former Oasis star Noel Gallagher has launched a tirade against modern pop music.

The Gallagher brother attacked Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Robin Thicke in a heated interview with Rolling Stone, describing the “Blurred Lines” singer as a “one hit wonder”.

“It’ll be like that guy who’s done "Gangnam Style" – we’ll never hear from him again,” he said.

Cyrus was criticised for her “embarrassing” behaviour in recent performances and accused of putting “all the other female artists back about f**king five years”.

“I think there’s a trend, unfortunately, in the game, at the minute, of girls desperately trying to be provocative or desperately trying to ‘start the debate’ about some old s**t or other,” he told the music magazine. “Because, really, they’re not very good. Do you know what I mean?”

“Be good, don’t be outrageous. Anybody can be outrageous! I could go to the Rolling Stone office and f**king shit on top of a boiled egg, right? And people would go, “Wow, f**king hell, that’s outrageous!” he continued.

Gallagher then dropped flamboyant pop star Gaga’s name, claiming to have “never heard of her” since her first album, The Fame. “She’s another one,” he said. “She’s probably doing a s**t on top of a boiled egg right now. Somebody will f**king freeze it and call it art.”

Other female musicians fared less poorly in Gallagher’s verdict, but he still could not resist throwing in a profanity. “Adele and Emeli Sandé – that music, to me, is like music for f**king grannies, but at least it’s got some kind of credibility,” he said.

The singer and guitarist ended his rant about music’s leading ladies with a comment that “the sisters are not doing it for themselves”.

Gallagher, 46, then labelled Arcade Fire “shit disco” and said the Canadian indie band “need to pry themselves out of their own asshole”.

Despite claiming not to have listened to their latest double album Reflektor, Gallagher said: “Who has the f**king time, in 2013, to sit through 45 minutes of a single album? How arrogant are these people to think you’ve got an hour and a half to listen to a f**king record?”

Dance duo Disclosure and rapper Kanye West have cemented their places on Gallagher’s iPod, however, with the singer describing the latter’s album Yeezus as “f**king great”. “It’s f**king out there, do you know what I mean? It’s got a great, lo-fi, punk vibe to it,” he said.

Arctic Monkey’s new album AM inspired a mixed reaction in Gallagher, who called half of it “really f**king good” and the other “eh, yeah”.

"Get Lucky" by Daft Punk is "effortless and brilliant", while David Bowie’s comeback album The Next Day also left the interview with honours after the Oasis musician described it as “a masterpiece”.
