RADIOHEAD played to a sell-out crowd at Dublin's Malahide Castle last night and kicked off a weekend of gigs across the country.
Fans of the Oxford group kept an anxious eye on the heavens as murky clouds threatened to spill over the north county Dublin venue.
The band are touring on the back of their latest album, the pay-as-you-please 'In Rainbows', which many critics claim is their best since 1997's 'OK Computer'.
Radiohead had instructed Irish fans to be as eco-friendly as possible when travelling to the Malahide venue, asking them to take public transport like the bus or DART rather than clock up the carbon in their cars.
They play again tonight, and a handful of tickets are still available priced at €70.
Also last night, Canadian punk-pop superstar Avril Lavigne thrilled the crowds at the RDS in Simmonscourt and will play another gig at Belfast's Odyssey Arena tonight.
Lavigne's fellow Canadian, acclaimed singer Rufus Wainwright, will play the opera house in Cork tonight before bringing his show to Limerick tomorrow.
But the biggest show in town tonight, although Radiohead fans might beg to differ, is Bon Jovi, supported by Razorlight and Kid Rock, at Punchestown Racecourse. Tickets to Bon Jovi are also still available and cost between €70 and €90. Those seeking a quieter night out can catch Lisa Hannigan, the one time muse of Damien Rice.
Hannigan plays three different Cork venues over the weekend, including a show at Cyprus Avenue last night, Baltimore tonight, Cobh on Sunday and De Barra's in Clonakilty on Tuesday. And, for older fans, the Ronan Collins Showband, with Dickie Rock, Sonny Knowles and Tony Kenny, will rock the Helix in Glasnevin tonight.
