The Scissor Sisters are to be one of the star acts in a live musical curtain raiser to the London 2012 Games.
The New York band will take to one of six stages at historic sites along the River Thames where acts from across the globe will perform in a two-day festival. The BT River of Music takes place on on 21 and 22 July 2012 - the weekend before the London 2012 Games begin.
Senegalese superstar Baaba Maal and US jazz king Wynton Marsalis, performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra, have already signed up to play. More names are to be added.
Music from Europe will be heard at the stages in Trafalgar Square and Somerset House, the Americas will be at the Tower of London, Asia in Battersea Park, Africa in Jubilee Gardens and Oceania in the Greenwich Old Royal Naval College.
More than 500,000 people are expected to see the bands strike up a welcome to London in different styles and collaborations to reflect the continents the competitors at London 2012 come from.
Some sites will require tickets for entry but the tickets will be free.
Ticketing information will be announced in May 2012. People can sign up online - www.london2012.com/festival - for more information.
