Santana commits 'music suicide'
Carlos Santana has said it's important for him to commit "career suicide" every once in a while.
The Mexican-born musician, 65, has released 21 albums and is hoping to bring out another record before the end of the year.
He said he thought it was good to take risks in his musical career rather than just follow the same formula.
"I realised it was healthy to commit career suicide once in a while. You have to wipe the slate clean, and it's OK to go home a different way."
The guitarist said of his musical influences: "I identify with three people above all others right now, and that's Michael Jackson, John Coltrane and Bob Marley. Those people were doing something that I completely understand."
