Rock hotspots

U2 at the Montenotte Hotel:

On February 4, 1980, U2 were photographed on the roof of Cork city's Country Club Hotel (now the Montenotte Hotel ) by NME's David Corio. The shot, against the Cork skyline, was used later on the cover of 2006 greatest hits album U218.

Van Morrison at Sutton House: Morrison appears on the cover of his 1974 LP 'Veedon Fleece' in the grounds of Sutton House Hotel, now a private residence. It was where he holidayed when he first arrived back in Ireland after a tour. His three-week stay led to a wave of song-writing that culminated in the release of 'Veedon Fleece' a year later.

John and Yoko in Mayo: John Lennon and Yoko Ono stayed in the Mulranny Park Hotel in Westport in June 1968. During their visit, Lennon performed a new Beatles track 'Revolution' to the amazement of locals and guests. Lennon came to Ireland after purchasing Dorinish Island in Clew Bay for IR£1,700 in 1967.
